Yesterday we went on the Napa Valley Wine Train...our Christmas gift from Corinne and Patric! It was about 30 miles from the RV Park and the ride there was beautiful...through Napa Valley and wine country. When we arrived at the train, we were given a wine tasting seminar, showing us the basics. Did you know that when the waiter uncorks a wine bottle and hands you the cork, you're not supposed to sniff it....you squeeze the end that was in the wine and make sure it's moist!
That means that the seal was good and your wine should taste good.
After the seminar, we boarded the train and were seated in beautifully refurbished Pullman cars for a 3 hour ride through the countryside, up to Mt. St. Helena and back. We had the second lunch sitting, so we started with a wine menu and hors d'oeuvres. After our appetizers, we were free to walk through the train for 40 minutes, and we ended up at the wine bar for a wine tasting, provided by a very informative bartender.
By this time, we had arrived in Mt. St. Helena so we went to the dinner car for our lunch...yum! We had more wine, a delicious creamy spinach and asparagus soup, and a choice of the main course, followed by an amazing dessert! When we arrivd back at the station, we our course had to purchase several bottles of wine that we had tasted on the train! All in all, a fabulous experience...thanks Corinne and Patrick!
After the Wine Train, we headed home through Sonoma and stopped at a winery that Corrine wanted to try...the beautiful Viansa Winery. We did a wine tasting there too...needless to say, we were all feeling pretty happy! Here's their
After purchasing a couple of bottles of wine there, we headed home again.
The entire day was amazing and so much fun to experience Napa Valley and Sonoma!
