We arrived in Crescent City, CA yesterday and we're staying at a very pleasant KOA, right in the middle of the redwoods (again!). We were going to drive down to the Trees of Mystery (we passed them on the way here) and take the Sky Train over the treetops today, but when we woke up this morning, it was such a beautiful day...so we decided we'd seen enough trees, packed Emma in the car and headed for the coast! Great choice! We spent several hours walking along the beach, rummaging through the redwood driftwood...trying to find the perfect piece...didn't find it, but it was fun looking anyway! We collected a few shells and one or two smooth stones though, and Emma had a ball chasing the waves...I think she'd be in heaven if she could run on the beach everyday!
After our day at the beach, we took a little detour to the Jedidiah Smith Redwood Forest. We stopped in the Visitor Center and had a nice chat with the campground hosts, who gave us the name of a great restaurant about 15 miles north...right on the border of Oregon, called the Nautical Inn. So, after dropping Emma off at home, we headed up the coast to the restaurant, which was situated right on the beach. Not only was the food delicious, but the view was spectacular!
Tomorrow we're heading up the coast again on US-101 to Coos Bay, OR, where we'll be staying at an RV park in the Mills Casino for 2 nights. The sites are all on the bay and I'm looking forward to watching the sunset! And maybe lose a few dollars at the slots...:-(
I would like to take this moment to thank my wonderful photagrapher for all the fantastic pictures he contributes to this blog...thank you, Eddie!
